Cross between squirrel and rat

This tiny wildlife was caught in a trap. Didn't exactly know what to call it. But it seemed like a cross between a squirrel and a rat.

Bintulu Pasar Utama from across the river

While filling up my car with diesel yesterday at a petrol station opposite the Bintulu town, I caught a glimpse of the twin roofs of Bintulu Pasar Utama, which is the wet and dry market all-in-one. I thought with the blue sky as background and the wide river as foreground this would make a good picture of the building as seen from across river. the group of deep sea vessels to the left provided a heightened interest.

A barrowful of Artocarpus fruits

The local name for this Artocarpus fruit is ' Ong Lumok '. It possesses soft fruits and seeds that are usually fried as afternoon snacks.

Banana from the Wild

This particular banana species is a recent introduction to Bintulu's landscaping scene. Bananas are grouped in our botanical spectrum of plants under the family MUSA. This particular species is called musa velutina. This picture is taken at Laman Kambatik.

Bird's Nest Fern

I love this particular fern for its huge radial leaves. Always put them in semi-shade locations to exhibit their wonders.

White Frangipani

There are plenty of flowers about to appear in full bloom from buds- in- waiting. This is part of my garden collection of fragipanis at Laman Kambatik, Bintulu.

Borneo Orchid

A fine example of a cultivar of Borneo orchid grown by my sister.

The Mango Tree

This is indeed THE Mango Tree of Bintulu. Planted sometime in the sixties, this mango tree stands today as a sole testimony of urban crawl that devastated the traditional Bintulu. In modern Bintulu, this tree managed to withstand the urban onslaught. I used to see this tree when I was about 10 years old when we live in a government quarters next to it. What a survivor!
